Lu Yanshao (1909-1993), a master of 20th-century Chinese landscape painting, was born in Jiading, Shanghai . Trained by Feng Chaoran and influenced by Wu Hufan, he mastered classical techniques . His transformative journey through the Three Gorges inspired his iconic dynamic style . A professor at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Art and later President of the Zhejiang Painting Academy, Lu innovated unique methods of rendering clouds and water. His later works featured bold, vigorous brushwork and profound literary depth, especially in series inspired by Du Fu's poetry . Revered alongside Li Keran as "Li in the North, Lu in the South," he remains one of the most influential figures in modern Chinese art.
