
李可染
Li Keran (1907–1989) was one of the most influential Chinese landscape painters in the 20th century. He studied under Qi Baishi and Huang Binhong, absorbing both meticulous and freehand brushwork.
He devoted himself to innovating Chinese landscape painting, emphasizing sketching from nature and integrating Western light and shadow techniques. His works are characterized by deep, rich ink tones, majestic mountains, and a strong sense of volume.
He also served as a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and trained numerous artists. Li Keran’s bold artistic reforms opened a new path for modern Chinese landscape painting and left a profound influence on later generations.
