The Story

This work follows the classic Chinese “landscape” tradition, inspired by literati painting aesthetics. The title Ri Ying Lan Guang (translating to “Sunlight on Misty Hills”) evokes the poetic scene of morning light filtering through mountain mists. The composition uses layered mountains to create depth, with dark ink defining rocks and light washes rendering mist and distant peaks. A winding river with a small boat adds life to the tranquil scene, while a single red tree provides a subtle focal point. The calligraphy and seal on the right complete the piece, adding a personal touch and cultural context. For the artist, this work was not just a depiction of scenery; it was an expression of the idealized natural world, reflecting the traditional Chinese love for quiet, contemplative landscapes.
