
潘天寿
Pan Tianshou (1897–1971), born in Ninghai, Zhejiang, was a giant of 20th-century Chinese art. He excelled in freehand bird-and-flower works, landscapes and finger painting, with powerful compositions and vigorous brushwork. As a devoted educator, he served as President of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Art and Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association, devoting his life to teaching and art theory. He upheld and innovated traditional Chinese painting, writing classic texts such as History of Chinese Painting. His majestic, distinctive style made him one of the Four Great Masters of modern Chinese painting, alongside Wu Changshuo, Qi Baishi and Huang Binhong, leaving a profound and lasting influence.
