
黄胄
Huang Zhou (1925–1997) was an outstanding modern Chinese painter and social activist. He was especially skilled at figure painting, portraying people of various ethnic groups with vivid expressions and dynamic postures. He was also widely known for his lively paintings of donkeys.
He created many works reflecting real life and folk customs, with bold and fluent lines and strong expressive power. In his later years, he founded the Huang Zhou Art Museum to promote art education and cultural exchanges.
His paintings combine realistic observation with traditional Chinese freehand techniques, making him one of the most influential figure painters in contemporary China.
